It is with heavy hearts that we announce that the board of the Friends group is retiring at the end of their current terms. Some of these members have been volunteering on the board for over 30 years; others have faced health issues that make it difficult for them to continue in these roles. While we are extremely grateful for all these members have given to benefit the library and our community, it is time for new leadership. The board needs a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Without a board, the Friends group will effectively disband.

What happens if the Friends disband? There will be no more Book Sales after September, as they are wholly organized by the Friends board and run by Friends volunteers. Library services will look different too, as the Friends purchase almost all of the museum passes enjoyed by library patrons, they purchase the license for ABC Mouse – an educational computer program for families to use at home – and they fund a great deal of the summer programs at the library.

The upside is that the members of our current board are not disappearing; in fact, they are committed to helping the new board out as much as they can. If this is something you care about and want to learn more about how you can help, current President Lois Jacobs welcomes any and all questions: lsj6@verizon.net.
Thank you.
