The Methuen Senior Center, along with volunteers from Meals on Wheels, organized the center’s first Giving Tree with the goal of providing holiday gifts to local homebound seniors with no families. The list contained gift wishes the seniors would appreciate, from soft slippers and cozy blankets to pajamas, books and more.
The volunteers who deliver the Meals on Wheels have first-hand knowledge of the 57 seniors who are homebound and will most likely spend the holidays alone.
Donors chose a paper with seniors’ wishes, purchased the items, wrapped them and brought them to the center. The Meals on Wheels volunteers delivered them along with the seniors’ daily meals.
Included in the Giving Tree were 13 residents of Cedar View and five from the Methuen Arlington Neighborhood.
Santa gathered with Mayor David “DJ” Beauregard, the center’s Director Susan Riccio and Methuen Senior Center staff and Meals on Wheels volunteers to help with distribution of the gifts. Several gift cards were also donated by Methuen Sons and Daughters of Italy Lodge 902 and its Lawrence Ladies Lodge 2026.
