The long wait for summer is over!
With each passing year, it seems like winter likes to hold out as long as it can. I am not complaining by any means because, in a sense, we do not get as much snow as we use to when I was younger. I remember having snow so high my father used to place a red long-handled flag on the antenna of the car so people would be able to see us coming out of our driveway. That was a lot of snow! However, let me put this conversation behind me and write about SUMMER!
I hope your summer days are filled with happiness, fun and family gatherings. I hope you can enjoy all that surrounds you and what is important to you. May your days be filled with laughter and love. Summer is not quite as long as winter, but we can make memories with those you share your special moments with.
Remember always that the Senior Center is here for you! We love to hear your stories and share your happiness. Stop by even if it is for a quick hello. If the summer gets very hot, remember we have air conditioning where you can come and cool off. Wishing you the best today, tomorrow and always!

Thank you

On May 8, we held our Arts, Crafts and Music Festival. Thank you to all the participants for showing us the beautiful craft you do and sharing it with the community. The Happy Hearts Chorus, under the direction of AnnMarie Morse and Marlyn Freeman, was fantastic! The Jewelry Sale was overseen by, Marilyn Freeman, Shirley King and Diane Corriveau. A very special thanks to City Council Chair Ron Marsan who paid for all guests’ lunch, provided by Chris’s Pizza. Laura Watson, Susan Gomes, Gen Marks, Judith Anselmi worked in the kitchen and helped in the dining room. Thanks to all the craft teachers who give of themselves all year round, and the Thrift Shop volunteers and the Methuen DPW for setting up the room and breaking it down. So many hands make this the biggest event of the year! We couldn’t do it without any of you!

During the festival, the Methuen Senior Activity Center and the Office of Mayor Beauregard recognized the Methuen DPW for all the assistance they have given the Senior Center during the transition period of hiring a maintenance worker.
A citation from the mayor and a plaque by the Senior Center was handed to DPW Director Patrick Bower. The amount of work these DPW workers have done for us is deeply appreciated. I have called them our knights in shining armor. Thank you, Mr. Bower, for your dedicated staff, from the office workers to those who hit the pavement every day.

to our tax preparers at the center where 240 seniors were serviced this year. To all the volunteer tax preparers, Dan DiBurro, Cyndi, Ferguson Gale O’Donnell , Steve Palmer an d Mike, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!

Drum roll, please!

Thanks to the Police Department for the wonderful Senior Supper! Two hundred people were treated to spaghetti, meatballs, bread, coffee and tea as well as cake from Piro’s Bakery. A great dinner and great conversation! The staff and community thank you for doing this every year during Older Americans Month!
