Five and a half months shy of completing her third and final term as West District city councilor (due to term limits), Allison “Allie” Saffie submitted her letter of resignation July 16 saying, in part, “I’ve had a challenging year and would like to focus on my family. The Methuen residents deserve an elected official who is all in, and I am wearing thin.”
She concluded with, “Lastly, I would like to thank all the City employees. This City is so great because we have incredible, dedicated employees. I appreciate every one of you. It has truly been a pleasure. Thank you!”
Sharing her resignation letter on Facebook that night, she wrote, “I am very proud of my time on Council and can’t thank you enough for the opportunity to serve for three terms (well, just about). I have an amazing family and want to spend more time with them. I hope people can understand this decision.”
Saffie and her fiancé, Vinny Rivela, are parents to William Salvatore Rivela who turned 1 last April.
Mayor DJ Beauregard told MethuenLife, “Councilor Saffie has done a great job for the people of Methuen – especially the West District – since she took office in 2020. I’m grateful for her service, and I wish her all the best.”
Saffie’s council seat will remain vacant until the upcoming election (Preliminary, Sept. 16 and Municipal, Nov. 4).
“Per the city charter, if a council vacancy occurs inside of 120 days before an election, the seat stays vacant until the next term begins in January. We’re 111 days out from Election Day,” Beauregard stated July 16.
Councilors recently completed the FY26 budget process.
