Did you know that nearly 300 men from Methuen served in the Union Army during the Civil War? Some of them went on to become political and business leaders in our community and beyond!
Learn about the
se war heroes during a free Trails & Sails walking tour Sept. 17 from 1-3pm, starting at the GAR Civil War Monument off Grove Street at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Methuen. The program will be led by Methuen historian Joe Bella.
“From the first shots on the streets of Baltimore in 1861 to the final battles near Appomattox Courthouse four years later, they fought in almost every major battle,” according to a description of the program. “For those who survived, nothing scared them.”
This is a free event and registration isn’t required. Walking shoes are recommended due to the terrain. If there is heavy rain, the tour will be canceled.
