Acting Mayor DJ Beauregard beat challenger James Sarcione in the Dec. 10 special election, to serve the remaining year of late Mayor Neil Perry’s term.

The official results were 2,734 votes for Beauregard and 1,017 votes for Sarcione. This was the only race on the ballot. While most voters chose either candidate, there were also 14 write-in votes and 4 blanks. Voter turnout was a little under 10%.

Beauregard celebrated with supporters at Merrimack Golf Course.

Shortly after he learned of his victory, he posted a message on Facebook that said, “THANK YOU METHUEN!

“Serving as Mayor is an honor and a privilege that I will never take for granted.

“Tonight we will celebrate our victory, but tomorrow the work to continue moving our city forward will begin anew and next year I will officially seek a full term as Mayor of this great city.

“I want to thank residents for braving the cold and rain to vote in this special election and James Sarcione for running a spirited and issue-based campaign. Our community is better because of people like Jim willing to stand up for the issues they care about.

“I will work each and every day to earn the support of ALL Methuen residents as we face the tough issues before us. Your trust in me will not be forgotten and I will work with an unrelenting passion aimed at moving our city forward.”
