On April 19, in celebration of Patriots Day, Historic Methuen will host the public for tours at Meeting House Hill Cemetery. The cemetery is located on East Street across from the entrance to Holy Family Hospital.
Come and explore the newly repaired and cleaned stones. The cemetery is normally locked, so don’t miss this opportunity to explore the past. This beautiful burial ground, shaded by mature pine trees and walled by Edward Searles’ stoned walls, is filled with intriguing gravestones of our city’s founders. The headstones, some of the oldest in Methuen, were hand-carved by the likes of Benjamin Day and Robert Mulliken.
An exhibit of Methuen’s American Revolution-era houses and the patriots buried at Meeting House Hill cemetery will be available. Historic Methuen will be on hand to guide you through and answer any questions.
The cemetery will be open for viewing from 10am-1pm weather permitting. Please check the website HistoricMethuen.org for updates.
