Where does time go? Seems like yesterday we were wishing for good weather for the month of April; now we are headed into the month of July! WOW!

The Methuen Senior Activity Center staff, Council on Aging, Board of Trustees and all our participants wish you and your families a happy, healthy month and especially a Happy Fourth of July!

What we offer

Retirees are invited to join us for:

  • Intergenerational programs such as Adopt-A-Grandparent.
  • Information and referral services.
  • Fuel- and food-assistance help.
  • Free durable medical equipment loan program.
  • Blood Pressure Clinics on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9-11am.
  • Healthcare proxy forms and Homestead Act applications.
  • Telephone outreach reassurance calls.
  • Ice Cream Socials, weekly Mahjong, Lunch and Dance events, monthly and weekly games, 45’s tournaments and so much more!

 

Exercise classes

Mondays: 8:30-9:15am, Aeroflex and Weights; 9:30-10:15am, Gentle Yoga.

Tuesdays: 8:45-9:30am, Cardio Aerobics and Weights; 9:30-10:15am, Line Dancing; 12:30-1:15pm, Tai Chi & Qigong.

Wednesdays: 8:30-9:15am, Balance, Bones and Brain; 9:30-10:15am, Balance, Bones and Brains; 10:30 -11:15am, ZUMBA.

Thursdays: 8:30 -9:15am, Gentle Yoga; 9:30-10:15am, Aeroflex with Weights.

Fridays: 8:30-9:15am, Yoga; 9:30 -10:15am, Yoga; 10:30 -11:15am, Line Dancing.

We also offer SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Everyone) on Mondays. Call the center for an appointment.

Like to sing?

Do you like to sing? Do you like to make others smile? if you answered “yes,” join the Happy Hearts Chorus on Thursdays at 1pm. This fabulous group performs around the city and for veterans groups, nursing homes, assisted-living programs, shows at the Senior Center and beyond.

Thrift Shop news

The Thrift Shop is open Monday through Thursday, 9am–3pm and Fridays, 9am-noon. Everyone loves a bargain!

Lunch Program

Weekly daily lunch program is available Monday- Friday at 11:30am. Reservations must be made no later that 11:30am two days in advance by calling (978) 983-8832. Suggested donation – $2 per day/per person. Monthly menus are available at the center.

NECC opportunity

Northern Essex Community College is offering a Senior Care Specialist Certificate. This one-year certificate program is designed for students who express an interest in working with adults over the age of 62. For more information, call (978) 556-3331.

July 26 – Lawrence General Hospital information session, Hypertension, 10:30am; Trivia and Tunes, 10:30am.
July 29 – BINGO, 1pm.
July 30 – Robert Megerdichian will present “Love In Metal – The Art of Abraham Megerdichian.” Robert is relatively new to Methuen and is a big fan of the Senior Center. His talk is an entertaining, sentimental and nostalgic look at his late father’s life and art. Robert has spoken dozens of times and Abraham’s art has been on display around New England and beyond, most recently at the National Museum of Toys and Miniatures in Kansas City, Mo. Join us for this colorful presentation. 1pm.
July 31 – Outdoor games, 10:30am.

Volunteer to drive

Make a difference in someone’s life. Volunteer to drive older adults to and from medical appointments. Drive when and where you want to. For information call NEET (Northern Essex Elder Transportation) at (978) 388-7474.
