The class will cover using your Chromebook and email, staying safe online and using apps like Zoom. Our free screening will take place Wednesday, July 9 at 1pm. We’ll have snacks and a big screen. Just like the movie theater, but free! Captain Kidd: True Story
of Treasure & Betrayal
Join us for a virtual chat Monday, July 14 at 7pm with author Samuel Marquis about his most recent book, “Captain Kidd: A True Story of Treasure and Betrayal.” The book looks behind the legend to a real man, woven into the tapestry of early America, rendering him a unique colonial hero and scapegoat whose life story was fascinating, exciting, bizarre and heartrending. Jigsaw Puzzle Races
We had so much fun with our Jigsaw Puzzle race last fall, we thought we’d do it again – but with a twist! We will hold two races Wednesday, July 30. The first race is at 3pm, and this one is for teams made up of family members of all ages. The second race is at 6:30pm, and that one is for adults only. The idea is simple: Sign up with your team of up to 4 people. Each team will get the same puzzle, and the first team to finish wins a prize! Dinner & a Movie
for New Adults
Come to a special Dinner and A Movie event for new adults! Adults in their 20s and 30s can bring dinner and come dressed in your best 1930s attire to eat dinner and watch a movie at the library, Monday, July 14, 6-8:30pm. Book donations
The Friends of the Nevins Library will begin accepting donations for the September Book Sale on Monday, July 7. Please bring your books, DVDs, jigsaw puzzles and games that are in good condition to the cart by the Main Desk. Call ahead if you need help bringing items in! (978) 686-4080.
Holiday hours
The library will be closing at 5pm on Thursday, July 3 and remain closed Friday, July 4 and Saturday, July 5 for the holiday weekend.
Kona Ice Truck at the Library
The Friends of the Nevins Library is sponsoring the Kona Ice Truck on Wednesday, July 16 starting at 11:30am and in conjunction with the visit by the Bruins Mascot Blades. The price for a delicious cold treat ranges from $4-$7. All proceeds go to the Friends of the Nevins Library who then support library programing and services, like providing the museum passes for use.

Summer is here at the Nevins! This year’s summer reading theme is Level Up at Your Library. Be sure to sign up for summer programs using the Calendar of Events or by calling the Youth Services Department at (978) 686-4080 ext. 26.
One Games is bringing Gaming and Golf to the Nevins Library on Friday, July 11, 1-4pm. Come play 9-hole mini golf, or play the latest titles on Xbox Series S, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch! Be sure to sign up for both the video game and mini-golf events, which are for people ages 8 and older. Sign-up for each event using the Calendar of Events or by calling the Youth Services Department at (978) 686-4080 ext. 26.
Come create art with Pop Up Art School on Tuesday, July 15, 4- 5:30pm. Learn how to paint a Dungeons & Dragons scene. Learn acrylic painting techniques and take home a masterpiece worthy of your next campaign!
Escape the room on Thursday, July 24, 3-4:30pm. Will you solve the mystery of Dr. Gravely’s Retreat and escape the room in time? Find clues, solve puzzles, and escape before time runs out.
Track your summer reading and earn points for your efforts on ReadSquared. Earn one point for every minute you read. In the Children’s Room
Our summer is off to a great start, with great programs last month and even more in store for July! You can look forward to a wonderful array of special events, including a lively Rockabye Beats performance; the return of One Up Games with both gaming and mini-golf; a visit with Blades, the Boston Bruins mascot; Star Wars lightsaber training and a character meet & greet; fun with balloon and magic master Jungle Jim; and entertaining and educational Science Heroes programs! Other unique offerings include an interactive movie, a creative Pop Up Art school session and an escape room event for teens, and a Jigsaw Puzzle Race for families (with prizes!).
We’ll also continue our summer program series, including our Unlocked sessions that take deep dives into a variety of fascinating topics, hands-on Summer Science fun, outdoor Read & Play storytimes, craft programs such as Paint our Bookends, Rock Painting, and Outside Art – and don’t forget our Friday morning Little Bookworms storytimes at the Nevins Farm MSPCA!
It’s also Summer Reading season! Have your kids picked up their “game boards” to keep tabs on their reading? Kids in kindergarten and above can drop by to collect a Summer Reading bag and start tracking their reading, with opportunities to enter our end-of-summer raffles (and little ones can start, or keep working on, their 1000 Book Before Kindergarten goal).
Keep an eye on the Youth Services calendar and the Children’s Room Facebook page to learn the latest about upcoming programs and special events – there’s so much fun ahead! (And remember that it’s always worth putting your name on a program’s Wait List if registration is full –we’re often able to open events up to more people.)
