This month’s items are two menus from the Silver Dragon Chinese-American Restaurant, which was located at 487 Lowell St. My family and I ate there often, and I attended functions there occasionally. Menu items include the “new and exciting” Pu Pu Platter appetizer ($3.85 per person), Lobster Chop Suey ($3.95), Broiled Sirloin Steak ($6.75) and Fried Scallops with French Fries and Vegetables ($2.75). There were also Family Dinners for 2, 3, 4, 6 or 8 people. Dinner for 8 included “Won Ton Soup, 2 egg rolls, 2 Chinese roast porks, 2 barbecue spare ribs, Moo Goo Gai Pan, Lobster Chinese Style, Chicago Chow Mein, Char Sue Ding, Sweet and Sour Pork, Fried Rice with Bean Sprouts, Tea, Bread, Fortune Cookies and Chinese Candies” … all for $41.50. Sadly, the restaurant was totally destroyed by fire in March 1985. The Passport Inn motel is now located at that spot.
