Here we are in the middle of winter and so far, I believe, we are pretty lucky. We had our first storm Jan. 7 which brought us 17 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service. But, hey, we are New Englanders and we can handle just about anything. However, I do miss the warmer weather now that the holidays are gone. So I will throw my sights on the coming months and look forward to shorts, T-shirts, sunshine and the ocean!

2 big birthdays!

On Feb. 21, we will wish a very Happy Birthday to:

*Violet Jessel who was our yoga teacher for 15 years and has been a part of the Happy Hearts Chorus for the past 40 years. Violet turns 100 on Feb. 12.

*Tuffic Hatem, a lifelong Methuen resident, a city employee for 40 years and a participant of the Senior Center, will celebrate his 100th birthday Feb. 19.

Join us for a day of congratulations, music, lunch and dancing! Cost is $2 for the luncheon, set for 11:30am. Reserve your spot by calling the Senior Center at (978) 983-8832.

Legal consultations

Attorney Peter J. McQuillan will host a free legal clinic by phone Feb. 14. Call the center for an appointment.

Good-news reminder

Good news regarding the MethuenLife newspaper, which has adopted a hybrid model. After some work behind the scenes, MethuenLife will continue to be printed at the same time each month. Additionally, the MethuenLife.com website will be another option to read the issue, plus some other goodies that will be part of the site.

MethuenLife can still be picked up at the Methuen Senior Activity Center as well as popular locations around the city, just as it has been for the past 23 years. Two great options to read what’s happening in our community!

Adopt-A-Grandparent

The Adopt-A-Grandparent program started back at the Activity Center and is in its 22nd year. Methuen High School students and the Methuen Senior Activity participants get together weekly to play cards, do crafts, talk about current events and so much more! If you would like to join, please call us at (978) 983-8825. There is nothing more valuable than the ages coming together to learn about each other and support each other. Eyes of the past, greeting the eyes of the future. Program times are Wednesdays, 2:15-3:45pm.
