I came across an interesting document from my Methuen collection that highlights a Methuen student who attended Pleasant Valley School. On Jan. 24, 1932, Charles Garofolo was awarded an Award of Merit from the Lawrence Automobile Club “in recognition of meritorious service rendered in protecting the lives of schoolchildren while serving as a member of the School Boy Patrol in the Town of Methuen, Massachusetts, for the year 1931-1932.” Pleasant Valley School Principal Mary C. Seymour signed the document. Also listed on the award are Chief of Police Cyril Feugill, Superintendent of Schools Lewis H. Conant, Lawrence Automobile Club President Fred H. Sargent and Officer in Charge of Patrol John H. McDonald.

Joseph G. Bella is vice president/historian of the Methuen Historical Society and has an extensive collection of local memorabilia.
