A night of zany, competitive – and, at times, VERY MESSY – games raised nearly $3,000 for the Methuen Arlington Neighborhood.

TGI Fridays hosted an “Olympic” event to benefit MAN Inc. Teams did everything from eating donuts hanging from a string and drinking pickle juice to untying a frozen-solid T-shirt. Another challenge had competitors digging through whipped cream to grab a piece of gum and blow a bubble!

Manager Cathy DiGaetano said, “We at TGI Fridays have fund-raisers for different organizations in the area. Ten percent of the food ordered will benefit them as well as the fees that each person paid to participate.”

She chose MAN Inc., after she asked some hockey players who frequent the restaurant if they knew of a local organization that would benefit from a fund-raiser. Police Officer Mark Aiello, who plays with the team, suggested MAN Inc.

MAN Inc., had five teams: Worker Bees, Unstoppables, Fireballs, Savages and Pink Panthers. Methuen Police and Fire Departments also had teams, and Officer Aiello’s teammates surprised him by taking part as the Chugging Woodpeckers.

DiGaetano and Assistant Manager Angela Hennington were the referees.

The fun fund-raiser netted MAN Inc., a total of $2,896 which included donations as well as proceeds from raffle items plus 10% from food purchases.

The Olympics winners were the Methuen Fire Department team which consisted of Lts. Jim McLaughlin and Mike Sullivan; and firefighters Eric Moreau, Liam Sheehy, Cody MacInnis, Dave Luciano, Ryan Campbell and Anthony Coco. Second place went to the Chugging Woodpeckers, and the Pink Panthers came in third.
