Our escorted bus tours are taking us on the road to a variety of interesting destinations throughout New England and beyond. We recently enjoyed some one-day excursions that featured a full-course luncheon combined with afternoon entertainment.
On May 19, we
traveled to Westbrook, Conn. The delicious lunch was at Water’s Edge Resort, a beautiful upscale waterfront hotel. Our dining room had floor-to-ceiling windows with spectacular views of Long Island Sound. From there we headed to the charming 274-seat Ivoryton Playhouse to attend a matinée performance of “On Golden Pond.” The play was wonderful. Two Tony Award-winning actors took on the lead roles of Norman and Ethel Thayer. They and the other members of the cast did an amazing job. On the bus ride back to Methuen, we announced our plans to return to Ivoryton in November to see the musical “Million Dollar Quarter – Christmas Edition.” By the time we got home, the November trip had sold out.
On May 24, our chartered luxury bus took us to Holyoke, Mass., for lunch and musical entertainment at the beautiful Log Cabin Banquet Hall. “America’s Sweethearts,” a trio of talented female singers based in New York City, provided us with a three-part concert with costume changes for each segment. First, they sang many of the songs made famous by the legendary Andrews Sisters. Mixed in were vintage numbers by other female groups from that era. Second, we were serenaded with a medley of hit songs that had been recorded by girl groups of the 1950s and ’60s. Third, they brought down the Hall with a rousing selection of patriotic songs.
On June 1, Newport Playhouse & Cabaret in Rhode Island served as our day-trip destination. After a buffet-style lunch in the main dining room, we walked down the corridor to the adjacent theater. The hilarious comedy play had everyone laughing almost uncontrollably. Following the play, we returned to the dining room for dessert and coffee along with vaudeville-type entertainment … song-and-dance numbers and comedy skits
Some of our upcoming bus tours will include a Lobster Luncheon Cruise in Gloucester, a train and river boat excursion in the Connecticut River Valley, an Olde New England Mystery Day Trip, a “Let’s Do Lunch” Day Trip to Rhode Island, the musical “Oklahoma!,” an overnight itinerary featuring Cape Cod and Nantucket, and a three-day Canadian Niagara Falls adventure.
