As promised, Methuen Police Department’s Community Policing now has their own ice cream truck. “Operation Freeze Patrol” officially hit the streets last month, stopping at various locations throughout the city.
From noon to 5pm on Aug. 22, free ice cream was delivered in serious police fashion with flashing blue lights and siren blaring. Each stop lasted between 15 and 20 minutes in order to ensure their route would have enough time to get to each location.
The refreshing treats included Bomb Pops, Creamsicles, Strawberry and Chocolate Shortcake, Ice Cream Cookie Sandwiches and Old Fashion Screwballs.
Citizens were informed via MPD’s social media pages that the truck would be out and about at certain locations, including Riverside Park, the tennis courts at Homestead Acres, Colonial Village, the parking lot of St. Lucy’s Church, etc.
“Operation Freeze Patrol” is made possible with generous sponsorships from Sheehan’s, Martineau’s and Coady’s towing companies, who provided not only funds for the lights and siren but also some of the reconstruction fees and freezers.
