Music, food, laughter and lots of reminiscing were at hand when close to 200 people gathered at Lenzi’s in Dracut to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the founding of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish.
OLGC was formed after the merger of St. Theresa’s in Methuen and St. Augustine’s on Tower Hill, Lawrence. The parish uses both churches to worship.
The day started with Mass at St. Theresa’s Church in Methuen led by Pastor Gregory Vozzo. He was joined at the altar by Father Peter Gori, the founding pastor, and former pastors Father Marc Bishop and Chris Casey. Father Bill Waters was unable to attend.
One highlight at the reception was the singing of “OLGC” written by Father Gregory, which matched the tune of the popular “YMCA” song by the Village People and included using arm movements to spell out letters.
The chorus goes:
“It’s fun to gather at OLGC
It’s great to worship at OLGC
We have everything a community needs
Bring your Bible and ros’ry beads
It’s fun to gather at OLGC
We’re a fam’ly at OLGC
You can get your soul clean at confession and Mass
And our music is all first class …”
Father Gregory leads parishioners in singing “OLGC” to the tune of the Village People’s “YMCA.”
