All politics is local, and the next round of Methuen elections is officially under way.
Positions that will be open to candidates include mayor, School Committee, Greater Lawrence Tech School Committee, Methuen Housing Authority and Nevins Memorial Library Trustee.
On May 28, nomination papers became available via the City Clerk’s Office for those interested in seeking office.
Here are highlights from the City Clerk’s 2025 Election Calendar, available at Methuen.gov.
July 25: Last day for potential candidates to obtain nomination papers.
July 29: Last day to submit signed nomination papers to the Registrars of Voters for certification of signatures.
Aug. 13: City to post list of candidates.
Aug. 14: Drawing for ballot positions for preliminary election races. (If no contested preliminary electin, drawing will take place at that time for municipal election.)
Sept. 6: Last day to register to vote in preliminary election.
Sept. 8-12: In-person early voting.
Sept. 9: Last day to request vote-by-mail ballot.
Sept. 16: Preliminary election, 7am-7pm.
Oct. 25. Last day to register to vote in municipal election.
Oct. 28: Last day to request vote-by-mail ballot.
Oct. 24-28: In person early voting.
Nov. 4: Municipal election, 7am-7pm.
