The Methuen Fire Department held a 9/11 Remembrance at the Central Fire Station attended by residents as well as state and local dignitaries. Firefighters, along with Methuen police officers, stood at attention outside the station while Fire Chief Tim Sheehy read remarks about the fateful day.
The Rev. Nathaniel Burnes gave a blessing to the departed, and Deputy Chief David Toto read “The Firefighters Prayer.”
Cam Donahue, one of Methuen’s newest firefighters, had the honor of “Striking the Four Fives,” a tolling of the large MFD bell signifying the death of a firefighter in the line of service.
Retired Billerica Firefighter Donald MacDonald, a Methuen resident, presented Sheehy with a wood carving of all the New York first responders whose lives were lost at the World Trade Center on 9/11 as well as two engraved slate plaques depicting Sept. 11 firefighters.
