On Feb. 11, visitors to The Loop were treated to a traditional Lion Dance celebrating the Chinese New Year; 2024’s “Year of the Dragon” festivities ran from Feb. 10-17. Pho City owners hired performers to don colorful, animated costumes and act out the lion dance on the sidewalk adjacent to and inside their restaurant. Mimicking lions’ movements during steady drum beats, the lions frolicked among a winding string of exploding firecrackers. The dance concludes with the lions receiving oranges for longevity, lettuce for wealth and luck, and red envelopes for good fortune. MethuenLife photo by Steve Whipple
