Methuen loves history – and there’s plenty of it in our community!
Lawrence Heritage State Park, 1 Jackson St., is offering a full array of programs this summer, all free and open to the public
Walking tours of the historic mill district are underway, which are conducted Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 10am and last approximately 90 minutes.
On Wednesdays, there is a “Bring-Your-Own-Lunch” educational program (except July 1) from noon until 1:15pm.
On Saturdays, beginning July 11, narrated boat tours of the Merrimack River will be conducted from 10am until noon (reservations required: (978) 794-1655).
Additionally, visitors are welcome for guided or self-guided tours of the museum and visitors’ center at Lawrence Heritage during operating hours from 9am-4pm daily.
Also, all are welcome to the 20th annual “Old-Fashioned 4th of July” celebration at Lawrence Heritage on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4. Abigail Adams will give a presentation on July 3 at 11am followed by a light lunch. On July 4 at 11am, the Live Oak Jazz Band will perform followed at noon by brief oration, flag-raising, singing of the national anthem, short parade around the block, public reading of the Declaration of Independence, buffet luncheon and free raffle drawings. Also on the Fourth, every visitor will receive a free American flag and there will be a best-dressed patriotic contest, so wear your red, white and blue!
