If you have driven down Lowell Street and crossed over Patriots Bridge (next to the Central Fire Station) since Sept. 11, you may have noticed the beautiful vases and floral arrangements there.

Assistant Program Director Jerrid Kenney planned this activity with the Key Program’s female youth residents to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11. Six people with Methuen ties – Douglas C. Gowell, Peter P. Hashem, Mildred R. Naiman, Marie Pappalardo, Patrick J. Quigley IV and Kenneth E. Waldie – were killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Kenney mounted the vases on each of the six plaques there early on Sept. 11, while the girls placed their freshly made flower arrangements shortly thereafter, in time for the 9/11 ceremony at the Central Fire Station that day.
