The Kattar family, owners of Merrimack Golf Club, has a long-standing history of honoring veterans as well as Methuen Police and Fire departments.
Several years ago, the club honored veterans with a memorial site on the course with flags from each branch of the military as well as benches. In 2020, they erected a granite stone with the Firefighters Prayer in honor of the Methuen Fire Department.
Recently, the family honored the Methuen Police Department with a similar granite stone that reads, “In our daily lives it’s easy to take for granted the sense of security and safety that we feel; we often forget the sacrifices made by the brave men and women in law enforcement who work tirelessly to protect our communities. The Thin Blue Line, as they are commonly known, represents courage, dedication and selflessness of law enforcement. Proudly dedicated to all Law Enforcement by the family of George T. and Phyllis A. Kattar.”
Several members of the Kattar family joined the Methuen Police Department to dedicate the memorial stone last month.
Jamie Kattar represented the family saying, “We often forget that 24 hours a day, seven days a week, there are men and women dedicated to protecting our safety and freedom. Whether it is our Armed Forces, or members of public safety in our Fire Department or law enforcement, when we are in need, they are there without hesitation. My family decided to honor all those who are there to protect and serve. To the members of the Methuen Police Department, we dedicate this monument to you on behalf of the family of George and Phyllis Kattar.”
Jamie also thanks Mike Colizzi of Colizzi Memorials for donating the granite memorial.
Chief Scott McNamara spoke on behalf of the Methuen Police Department saying, “What a wonderful tribute. Days like today remind us that members of our community see what we do every day and value what we do. It reminds us that we are there for you as you are for us. I can’t say enough about this. The beauty of it is, it will be here long after we’re gone. Thank you so much for this wonderful tribute.”
