Retired Police Officer Chrisine Nicolosi and her German shepherd partner, retired K-9 Kilo, spent every day together for 11 years.
While they patrolled the streets of Methuen for the past 10 years, Christine and Kilo were inseparable and had a bond built on trust and caring. Highlights of Kilo’s career include tracking down a 2017 armed robbery suspect and sniffing out a 2021 commercial break-in suspect.
Both retired earlier this year, as Christine and Kilo each faced their own health challenges. While Christine was working to regain her health, Sgt. Dave Souther stepped in to help care for Kilo and took him to appointments at Black Rocks Animal Hospital, under the care of Dr. Audrey, who fought alongside Kilo during his battle with cancer.
K-9 Kilo joined the Methuen Police Department at a year old and was paired with Nicolosi, a 38-year police veteran. They were partners in every sense of the word and, for 10 years, Christine and Kilo worked and lived side by side, sharing both the quiet moments and the dangers of the job.
With Christine present, K-9 Kilo – holding tightly to his favorite toy and draped in a flag – he lost his battle with cancer Sept. 2, 2025. On Oct. 24, Kilo was laid to rest at Hillside Acre Animal Cemetery alongside his brother K-9 Rieko, who was also Christine’s partner until his retirement in 2015 and ultimately his passing.
