The Methuen Senior Activity Center’s Happy Hearts Chorus hosted the St. Monica’s Chorus last month for a beautiful collaboration of Christmas songs.
Happy Hearts Director Susan Riccio contacted St. Monica’s School and – with the assistance of Principal Donna Henderson and Chorus Director Beth DaCunha – they made it happen.
The children joined the seniors in several songs including an outstanding rendition of “Mary Did You Know,” “Jingle Bells” and more. Don Riccio performed “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch,” which the children loved. City employee Jill Stackelin was the emcee.
In September, Riccio spoke with Mayor Neil Perry and had asked him what song he’d like to sing for the Christmas concert, as he had joined in song for previous concerts; he told her “Blue Christmas.”
In honor of Mayor Perry, who died unexpectedly Sept. 21, Methuen Fire Department Lt. James Garrity had the honor of singing that song with passion as a slideshow of the late mayor was shown.
Santa and Mrs. Claus made a special appearance for the children.
The finale of the show included both choruses, along with the audience, singing “Let There Be Peace on Earth.”
