Methuen’s Joseph Feole has packed a lot of living into this past century!
His titles have included everything from war veteran and mechanical engineer to great-grandfather, wedding photographer and competitive ballroom dancer.
Last month, the Irish Cottage’s function room was filled with nearly 100 family and friends for a surprise party celebrating the 100th birthday of Feole, an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Feole served from 1944-1946 in Foggia, Italy, reaching the rank of sergeant.
Born in Lawrence, Joseph was one of eight children. He has been a Methuen resident 70-plus years. Joseph married his late wife Roberta and together raised five children who gave them 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
While working full time as a contractor for Elliot’s in Lawrence remodeling kitchens and bathrooms, he attended night school and received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Lowell Technological Institute. He then went to work at Raytheon for many years as a mechanical engineer before his retirement in 1992.
He was also a professional photographer for many years, capturing images at weddings for family and friends.
He started ballroom dancing at the age of 81 and participated in local competitions as well as many showcases at the Krystal Ballroom dance studio.
He was an avid swimmer, making waves at the gym three to four times a week and working out five days a week up until the age of 96.
