Firefighters and their families gathered at the Central Fire Station for the annual Firefighter Memorial service, held on the second Sunday in June, followed by a breakfast buffet.

Fallen Methuen firefighters’ names were read, following “The Firefighters Prayer.”

The Patrick McKallagat Award this year went to Firefighters Shannon Fitzgerald and Christopher Troy for their lifesaving efforts during a mutual-aid call to North Andover. After CPR was performed by North Andover police on an unresponsive 35-year-old male, Fitzgerald and Troy took over and used the defibrillator three times to revive him. It was later learned that the male had an undetected heart issue that he never knew about. The patient recovered and is doing well.

Fitzgerald and Troy were also recognized with a Lifesaving Award from the North East Regional Office of Emergency Management.

The following new firefighters received their badges and two were promoted to higher ranks:

*Firefighter Joseph Burke, pinned by his uncle, Kevin Burke.

*Firefighter Matthew Carr, pinned by Lt. Jim McLaughlan.

*Firefighter Cam Donohue, pinned by his father, Deputy Chief Dan Donohue.

*Firefighter Cody MacInnis, pinned by his niece Paislee Potenza.

*Firefighter Liam Sheehy, pinned by his father, Fire Chief Tim Sheehy.

*Firefighter Colin West, pinned by his father, Pat West.

*Promoted to lieutenant was Mike Foley, pinned by his wife Tanya Foley.

*Promoted to lieutenant was Ryan Sullivan, pinned by his father, Deputy Chief Scott Sullivan.

Scholarships were also presented to Liam Sullivan, Keegan Sullivan, Dylan Suliveras, Nathan Blanchette, Delaney True and Ava McKenna.
