It was COOL to go back to school a bit early this summer, thanks to the debut of Methuen Public Schools’ Back-to-School Bash!
Hundreds of MPS families headed to Methuen High on a super-steamy afternoon Aug. 20, where friendly faces, terrific resource materials and loads of freebies awaited.
Administrators from each school welcomed new K-12 students and got caught up with those who are returning. PTO board members invited parents to get involved and the Little Rangers program director explained how their before- and after-school programs work, while Nevins Library staffers handed out bookmarks and other goodies.
Celebrities in their own right, the five school mascots – MHS Ranger, CGS Bulldog, Timony Dragon, Marsh Eagle and Tenney Tiger – gave high-fives and posed for photos.
With temperatures soaring to 88 degrees outside, the MHS ice rink was the place to be! Kids of all ages glided around in their shorts, tank tops and borrowed skates – a unique sight for sure!
Face-painting, games, food and ice cream vendors as well as a variety of welcoming MPS staffers were all part of the experience.
Parents, kids and staff alike agreed that this was an upbeat and fun way to get the new school year off to a positive start!
The first day school for most MPS students is Sept. 2, while preschoolers and kindergartners head to class Sept. 10.
Timony/Marsh Humanities Supervisor Jenn Connolly was happy to help fifth-grader Caileb Perry pick out a free book.
