For over a decade, Al D’Agata has taken his commitment to Methuen seniors above and beyond.

D’Agata has been part of the Methuen Senior Center for years. In 2012, he was appointed to the Council on Aging which advocates on behalf of the city’s elders. In 2017, he became president of the center’s Board of Trustees which oversees fund-raising and continued in that role until last month.

In recognition of his tireless efforts and leadership, the Trustees presented a plaque to Al. Although no longer president, he will continue to serve as a Trustee.

“A special individual. Anyone who knows Al D’Agata would agree with that description,” noted Gen Marks, the Trustees’ new president. “A caring, kind individual who has devoted his time, energy and love to the City of Methuen and its residents.”

Over the years, D’Agata has played a major role in events at the center. For three years, he and his wife Barbara emceed Happy Hearts Chorus events everywhere from the center and assisted-living facilities to nursing homes, veterans homes and Methuen holiday tree lightings. The couple’s humor was a staple at these events.

D’Agata was always there to assist at different events at the center, including fairs and celebrations.

“Al is a rare treasure in Methuen,” Marks said.
