Citywide election is Nov. 4, polls close at 7pm
It’s almost time to VOTE, Methuen! The Municipal Election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 4 when polls will be open from 7am-7pm.
Voters will choose a mayor (1), councilors-at-large (3), East District councilors (2), Central District councilors (2), West District councilors (2), Methuen School Committee members (6), Greater Lawrence Technical School Committee representatives (2), Methuen Housing Authority members (2) and Nevins Memorial Library Trustees (2).
The last day to register to vote in the municipal election is Oct. 25. The last day to request a vote-by-mail ballot is Oct. 28, and early in-person voting will be held Oct. 24-28 in City Hall at the Clerk’s Office during regular business hours (Monday-Thursday, 8an-4:30pm and Friday, 8am-noon).
In Methuen’s 2023 Municipal Election, a mere 9.1% of the city’s registered voters took part, so there’s plenty of room for improvement.
We asked candidates for mayor, City Council and School Committee to introduce themselves to MethuenLife readers and explain why they’re running for elected office. Televised candidate forums (see box) are another way to ask questions and get to know the candidates. Please make an effort to get to the polls and cast your ballot. It’s all part of the democratic process!
CANDIDATE FORUMS
Methuen Community Studios is hosting forums for contested races this month from their Aegean Drive studios and you can help. They welcome your questions for the candidates at info@methuentv.org by Oct. 4 OR you can stop by their table at Methuen Day (Oct. 4 in Methuen Square) and leave your questions with them.
Here’s the schedule for LIVE programs.
Tuesday, Oct. 7: Councilor at Large forum LIVE at 6:30pm.
Thursday, Oct. 9: The candidates for mayor will take questions LIVE at 7:30pm.
Thursday, Oct. 16: School Committee candidates forum planned LIVE at 6 pm.

The forums for the East, Central and West Districts will be recorded Oct. 8-9 and shown starting Oct. 11.
