Methuen’s first dog park will hold its grand opening Saturday, June 1 at the Gill Avenue Park. Rec Director Steve Angelo tells MethuenLife he is planning a block-party-type celebration with music and games. Stay tuned to ML’s Facebook page for start time.

Angelo is pleased with all the work that’s been done and is confident that residents (and their pooches) will enjoy this space.

“It looks amazing!” he told MethuenLife.

Make sure your dog arrives leashed and that you clean up after your 4-legged friend.

The dog park includes three separate gated doors, with two spacious areas. There’s a smaller grassy area with three large benches as well as a larger space with grass, mulch and gravel and four benches. Both areas have access to a 3-level (taller, smaller and canine) water bubbler.

Thanks to federal funding, this park recently underwent a major transformation and, in addition to the playground and splash pad, now includes the dog park and a full-size basketball court. There’s still plenty of open space for soccer, whiffle ball or just letting the kids loose to drain some energy! Additionally, there’s new lighting along with trees for shade, and plenty of parking and trash barrels.

To get to the park, take Broadway to Oakland Avenue to Railroad Street to Gill Avenue. The dog park remains locked until June 1.
