First Baptist Church hosted a Juneteenth celebration in conjunction with the City of Methuen on June 15. Held in the church sanctuary, at 30 Park St., the event featured music and singing as well as speeches by Mayor Neil Perry, Police Chief Scott McNamara and Fire Chief Tim Sheehy.
Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery on June 19, 1865, two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
