‘Declaration’ reading
in historic cemetery

Help celebrate the United States of America’s 250th anniversary by attending Methuen’s annual reading of the Declaration of Independence on July 4. All are invited to Methuen’s Meetinghouse Hill (located across from the entrance to Merrimack Health Methuen, formerly known as Holy Family Hospital) at 10am.
Historic Methuen is asking Methuen residents – individuals and families – to participate in the reading of the Declaration of Independence. On a first come basis, people will be given a small section of the Declaration to read. Anyone interested, please e-mail info@HistoricMethuen.org.
After the reading, Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery – Methuen’s oldest cemetery – will be open for browsing and tours. What a wonderful way to honor the 47 Revolutionary War soldiers of Methuen who are buried there! The cemetery will be open until noon.
To celebrate the 300th anniversary of the founding of our city, the Methuen Festival of Trees’ Board of Directors is gifting a beautiful black steel fence to replace the cemetery’s old and damaged chain-link fence. The fence measures 356 feet and will be dedicated July 4 at 10am at Meetinghouse Hill. Many important debates and discussions took place in that Meetinghouse and, in 1776, the town’s minister, Christopher Sargent, read – as he was instructed to do by the Continental Congress – the Declaration of Independence to the assembled congregation.
And 300 years later, life in Methuen is coming full circle!

Red, White &
Blue concert

The Methuen Memorial Music Hall will host its annual Red, White and Blue Festival Concert on July 5 at 3pm. This free show honors birthday boy Edward F. Searles (born July 4, 1841), the millionaire who built and funded projects around the city. No tickets required! In addition to a patriotic sing-a-long and recognition of military personnel, performers include soloist Jessica McCormack, organist Raymond Nagem and pianist DJ Cleavinger. Doors open at 2:30pm. The hall is located at 192 Broadway.

Fireworks at Loop
on July 11

Save the date for this popular celebration of independence: July 11 at The Loop. The fun runs from 5:30-10pm. There will be food trucks, live music, games, face-painting and … FIREWORKS! Bands set to jam that night include The Veterans Den Band, Gigi and the Gravity Men and the B Street Bombers!
