The Nevins Library is planning a “Tiny Art” Show in the library, opening Tuesday, Feb. 20 and closing Friday, March 1. Would you like to be a part of it? Stop by the library and pick up your “Tiny Art” kit at the Main Desk! The kit has everything you need – a small canvas, paints, a paintbrush and a pencil. Feel free to add other materials as well! Just return your art, with the entry form, to the Main Desk by Feb. 16 to be included in the show and be eligible for prizes. Did we just say prizes? Yes! There will be a small prize for each of the four age categories: 0-5 years, 6-12 years, 13-19 years old and adults. Then one additional prize for “Nevins Staff Favorite” and “Patron Favorite.” We can’t wait to see the art you create!

Mini-golf in the library

The Nevins Library is hosting a fun Mini-Golf Fundraiser on Sunday, Feb. 18 from 11am-3pm (snow date is Monday, Feb. 19). Bring the family and play mini-golf in the stacks and throughout the library!  This has always been an incredibly popular and fun event. Cost is only $5 per player, right at the door.  Refreshments will be available for purchase at our “19th Hole”! See you there!

News from Youth Services

As we head into February and have an early-release day and a school vacation coming up, we’ll offer some special programs to keep your kids busy. On Feb. 16 (the early-release day), kids aged 8 and up can join us for our video game free-play event, hosted by Massachusetts eSport and gaming venue, One Up Games; players can explore virtual worlds with the Oculus Quest, or play the latest titles on Xbox Series S, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch! During the school vacation we’ll have a Silent Disco event on Feb. 21 – at this dance party, participants get to pick what music to listen to and, using wireless headphones, choose between two DJs and dance the night away! (Headphones that allow you to switch between the two DJs will be provided.) Kids and adults had a blast at this event when we held it last summer – don’t miss out! Last but not least, this month we’ll also have pictures of rubber duckies hidden throughout the Children’s Room – bring your kids in to enjoy this silly scavenger hunt, just for fun!

As ever, we’ll also have our usual variety of preschool programs, storytimes (including a bilingual program), book groups, teen programs and more – keep an eye on the Youth Services Department calendar and Facebook page to keep track of what’s in store!

Happy February, and Happy Reading!
