Fun, fellowship and some friendly competition – that’s what the Kiwanis Club of Methuen and sister clubs from Lawrence, Haverhill and Salem, N.H., experienced March 7 while playing bocce at the Sons of Italy Bocce Center in Methuen.
This is the fifth year of this event and 14 teams participated. The event included raffle prizes and a 50/50 raffle. The club’s community partners served up delicious coffee and pastries from Dunkin and lunch from Texas Roadhouse in Methuen.
The Gold Cup-winning team was won by the Greater Lawrence Kiwanis Club who will hold the Gold Cup for this year and return next year to defend their title. These Salem “neighbors” entered two teams this year and Haverhill Kiwanis Club joined as well. Almost all of them went home with trophies and bragging rights!
Division K Champions was the St. Ann’s team and Division A was won by the Hit and Stick team, comprised of Ken MacInnis, David Zappala, Anthony DiMarco and Dom Sylvestri.
“The Kiwanis motto, ‘We accomplish so much more when we serve together,’ was fully evident at this successful event,” said Methuen Kiwanis’ Eileen Giordano in a statement. “All the kids we serve will truly benefit from the generous participation of our sister clubs, friends and family! We couldn’t do it without you!”
