The Methuen Exchange Club hosted a dinner at St. Ann’s Home with chicken pies donated by Harrow’s along with five sheet cakes donated by the Greater Lawrence Technical School.
Exchangite Brad Jones said the goal was to spark some excitement into the kids’ daily grind and “let them know someone cares.”
Harrow’s Chicken Pies owner Wally Arsenault provided enough pies to feed 200 residents and staff members.
Jones contacted GLTS Culinary Arts Director Scott Stewart about donating a sheet cake for the dinner.
Jones said, “Scott went out of his way and donated a total of five sheet cakes for us.”
One of the students is a resident of St. Ann’s Home and was proud to be a part of making the cakes, he said.
President and CEO Joseph Cronin and Director of Supplemental Services Al Apperti have welcomed the Methuen Exchange Club several times in the past for their continued support of the school. Club members have donated backpacks full of supplies, hosted dinners and much more. Their motto has always been to “give back to the community.”
St. Ann’s Home celebrated its 100th anniversary last year. The school, which opened on Christmas Eve 1925 as an orphanage run by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, is now a space to educate, nurture, rehabilitate, support and advocate for children, adolescents and young adults who face serious behavioral, emotional and mental health challenges and learning disabilities.
Exchange Club member Christina St. Onge serves delicious GLTS-created cake to students while members Michael Jasinski, Paul Guy and Linda Cammarato fill cups of Kool-Aid for the guests.
