Hot rods meet history at the Pipes and Pipes Classic Car and Organ Show, slated for Saturday, Sept. 27 from 10am-2pm at the Methuen Memorial Organ Hall, 92 Broadway.

This free event will showcase around 60 classic cars on the lawn. Visitors may also tour the hall and hear the Great Organ playing both classical and popular music. A food truck will be present, allowing guests to enjoy a relaxing lunch under the shade trees.

Millionaire Edward F. Searles had this magnificent hall built specifically for this pipe organ, the first concert hall organ in the United States! The organ was built in 1863 and Searles installed it in the Music Hall in 1909.

This event is part of Trails and Sails, now in its 24th year. Trails & Sails is your ticket to adventure across Essex County – a region recognized as a National Heritage Area for its rich history, cultural treasures and natural landscapes. Each September, this vibrant event series provides access to hundreds of unique experiences such as guided hikes and paddles to behind-the-scenes tours, historic reenactments, interactive exhibits, artisan demos, community celebrations and much more.

Whales and Waterways: Latino Conservation Event: Sept. 13, 9am-1pm. Explore oceans and waterways in a new light in the heart of Lawrence! Tour the historic North Canal, see a screening of El Canto del Mar, meet Salt the life-size inflatable whale, and more during this day highlighting Latino connections to marine conservation. Blacksmithing Saturday: Sept. 13, 9:30am-1:30pm at the Essex Company Shop, 6 Essex St. Richard Wright will be demonstrating the craft of traditional blacksmithing methods, forging both iron and mild steel to create items for practical use in the shop’s historic courtyard. The forge was first in use in the early 1880’s when the Essex Company complex was constructed.

Hike the Freeman Memorial Trail at Whittier Birthplace: Sept. 13, 7-8pm, 305 Whittier Road, Haverhill. Pick up a brochure for this self-guided tour from the box by the stone wall, then explore around the c.1688 Whittier Homestead. The trail is about a half-mile and goes over uneven ground.

“Immigrant City: A Pilgrim’s Journey”: Sept. 13, 11am-noon at 6 Essex St., Lawrence. Lecture by Ron Suduiko, whose family worked to build a life in Lawrence in the 1930s.
“In the Footsteps of the Workers: Bread and Roses Strike Walking Tour”: Sept. 14, 21 and 28, 11am-1pm at 1 Jackson St., Lawrence. Walk the streets where strikers fought for fair wages to see how the workers won the 1912 Bread and Roses Strike and created a legacy of reform and resistance in the process. This 1-mile walking tour begins at the Visitor Center & Museum and covers 1 mile on paved roads.

Bella Buildings Tour: Sept. 15, 10-11am and Sept. 25, 1-2pm at 2 Railroad Square, Haverhill. Stroll the Streets of Haverhill’s Little Italy as seen on the TV show “Chronicle.” Explore Haverhill’s rich Italian culture and architectural history of River Street Washington Street and the lower part of Mt. Civil War Walk at Hilldale Cemetery: Sept. 19 and 26, 2-3:15pm, 331 Hilldale Ave., Haverhill. The walking tour will focus on some of the more than 300 plus soldiers and their stories.

Den Rock Park Hike: Sept. 27, 10am-noon. Come explore Lawrence’s 120-acre urban wild. This guided hike will lead visitors on an exploration of the Den Rock Park Conservation Area. Explore a landscape sculpted by ice sheets and features created by people starting with paleolithic humans 15,000 years ago. You’ll visit vernal pools, beaver ponds, the Shawsheen River and its sprawling floodplain, and an upland oak-hickory forest. Learn about the array of wildlife that call Den Rock Park home, and how the park is responding to climate change and extreme weather events. Enter via Winthrop Avenue, Lawrence.

Haverhill’s Woofstock: Sept. 27, 10am-3pm at 436 Salem St., Haverhill. Celebrating all dogs, with over 40 crafters, delicious food, canine demonstrations, dog activities and games. Pet costume contests and apple-baking contest. Well-behaved dogs are welcome, on leash.
