Teens & seniors pose & party at Intergenerational Prom!

PARRRRRRRRRR-TY!

An Intergenerational Prom was held at the Methuen Senior Activity Center last month, a highlight of this year’s Adopt-a-Grandparent program.

Students from Methuen High School, who participate in the program, joined their senior citizen counterparts for an afternoon of dancing to music by DJ Dowd, dining and a whole lot of fun. A photo booth with props was also available for guests to have their pictures taken.

Several students came dressed in their best prom attire, while their adopted grandparents dressed in suits and fancy dresses.

Prom Kings and Queens were chosen from each generation; Mike and Connie Welch were selected as grandparent King and Queen, while Sabrel Sanchez and Yasury Bonilla were chosen from the teens.

Activities Coordinator Jennifer Loiselle had an array of foods including sandwiches, fruit and desserts for guests to enjoy.

MHS faculty adviser Jeff Bellistri has been running the program, which started 22 years ago, with Interim Senior Center Director Susan Riccio. This year, 40 students were enrolled and typically 25 attend the program every Wednesday after school from 2:30-4pm, where the generations get to know another through games, conversations and spending time together.

The program ends June 4 and will start up again in September.

At the final meeting of the 2024-25 Adopt-a-Grandparent program, artist Jennifer Rolfsema sketched an incredible group caricature of several of the participants!

The room, filled with music, had everyone on the dance floor!
