The Nevins Library welcomes the New England Ukulele String Ensemble for a performance Sunday, May 4 at 1pm. This promises to be a fun afternoon with an outstanding group of instrumental ukulele players. Great fun and easy listening for everyone. The New England Ukulele String Ensemble (NEUSE) is an instrumental ukulele music group playing classical and modern music from many genres. Virtual programs
The Nevins Library is happy to present two virtual programs for you this month!
The first, Get More Out of Value Line, Get More Out of Your Investments will be held Thursday, May 8 at 7pm. In this presentation, Sean McGowan, Value Line Publishing LLC library specialist, will introduce you to Value Line Library and its solutions covering a range of investor needs and offers a depth and breadth of proprietary research investors can’t find anywhere else.
Then we’ll have Experience Spring Bird Migration to the Fullest on Monday, May 12 at 7pm. Author Heather Wolf shares tips for jumping into the nature documentary happening around you, also known as spring bird migration! Learn how to find more migrating birds and witness their fascinating behaviors, as well as cue into birds that will be breeding and raising young in your area.

Chateau Fundraiser
The Friends of the Nevins Library will be holding a yummy fund-raiser at the Chateau on Tuesday, May 13. Bring family and friends for a delicious meal either in person or take out, and the restaurant will donate a portion of your bill to the Friends of the Nevins Library! Our active Friends group hosts many different fund-raisers – from the Chateau event above to their incredibly popular Book Sales. All the money raised through these activities supports the library by purchasing Museum Passes for people to use, sponsoring many performers for all ages throughout the year, beautifying the library grounds and so much more. It takes a lot of work to make all of this happen, and it can be a lot of fun too! One Up Games
If video games are a hit in your family, students are invited to come in on their half-day of school for One Up Games on Friday, May 23, 1-4 pm, in the Garden Room. Explore virtual worlds with the Oculus Quest, or play the latest titles on Xbox Series S, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch! Board and Brewed
Adults in their 20s and 30s: If you love coffee, tea and games, come to Board and Brewed! Board and Brewed meets on Saturday, May 17 at 11am. The library will provide coffee and tea, you provide the games. There are no sign-ups for this program. Just drop in.
Children’s Room news
Spring is in full swing, but here in the Youth Services Department we’re gearing up for summer! We have lots of great programs in store for our young patrons, and you can start registering for June events (including “Dinosaurs Rock!”) on May 15, when our online and print calendars are published.
Meanwhile, throughout May we’ll also have our usual variety of preschool programs, storytimes (including a bilingual program) and teen programs – including another session with One Up Games on May 23, an early-release day for Methuen schools. And don’t forget that Murphy the Dog is back from his winter vacation and is looking forward to listening to your children (ages 5-18) read aloud to him! Keep an eye on the Youth Services Department calendar and Facebook page to keep track of what’s in store, and we look forward to seeing you soon.
