The Spanish and Multi-Cultural Club at Methuen High School hosted its annual Quinceañera ball for five students who are celebrating their 15th birthday.
In the Hispanic community, a quinceañera is a rite of passage for girls when they turn 15, signifying their transition from childhood to young adults.
The quinceañeras and their partners were Nordys Guaman and Maximiliano Vargas, Yerlin Urena and Emiliano Valerio, Crismailin Quiroz and Maicol Padilla, Ashley Mejia Rodriguez and Randolf Vasquez Garcia, and Ambar Maldonado and Anderson Vargas.
Spanish teacher Maria Figuereo, who is also adviser to the Spanish and Multi Cultural Club, worked with Laura Enright, head of the World Language Department, and other school officials in planning the event.
“Celebrating thes e types of cultural events allows students to have a better sense of pride and belonging to the school community because their culture and traditions are celebrated,” Figuereo said.
