Join us on Zoom Monday, Feb. 10 at 7pm for Gal Pal/Valentine’s Day Book Recs with Lorelei, when Lorelei will be giving us book recommendations for this special holiday – not only for couples, but pals and gals. So, if you love a good romantic story, one that has a good group of friends, and/or a tight knit circle of women, this program is for you! And, if your pile isn’t already groaning, it will be! Fraud Prevention with Methuen Police

Board & Brewed
Adults in their 20s and 30s: if you love coffee, tea and games, come to Board and Brewed! Board and Brewed meets on Saturday, Feb. 1 and 22 at 11am. The library will provide coffee and tea; you provide the games. There are no sign-ups for this program, just drop in and play!

From the Children’s Room
As we head into February and have an early release day and school vacation coming up, we’ll offer some special programs to keep your kids busy. On Feb. 14 (the early-release day), kids aged 8 and up can join us for our video game free-play event, hosted by Massachusetts eSport and gaming venue, One Up Games; players can explore virtual worlds with the Oculus Quest, or play the latest titles on Xbox Series S, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch! During the school vacation we’ll bring back our “LEGO Block Party” program (ages 8-12), offer a “Create, Explore & More!” cupcake decorating session (ages 9-12), hold a “Stuffed Animal Sleepover” (ages 5-8) and bring back bilingual storytellers Esther Gomez and Larina Liendo for another lively presentation (all ages).
But you don’t have to wait for February vacation for special programs! Young and old alike will enjoy a presentation by Jane Newhouse, founder of Newhouse Wildlife Rescue, as she discusses what wildlife rehab is all about and shares fun facts about opossums, porcupines, beavers, raccoons and foxes (Feb. 3, all ages). Participants will learn the do’s and don’ts of helping injured and orphaned wild animals in an emergency – and they’ll meet the Newhouse Educational Ambassador, Stanley the Groundhog, just in time for Groundhog Day!
Another very special program we’re offering is a movie sing-along Feb. 7 (all ages) – bring your dinner, and you can eat and sing along with the movie set in the land of Oz and telling the story of two witches! And speaking of movies, don’t miss our “Story to Screen” program on Feb. 15, where we’ll watch an animated movie, based on the popular book by Aaron Blabey (ages 6-12).
As ever, we’ll also have our usual variety of preschool programs, storytimes, teen programs, history and craft programs, and more – keep an eye on the Youth Services Department calendar and Facebook page to keep track of what’s in store!
