Welcome to 2025! We at the Nevins Library hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and is looking forward to the new year as much as we are! You can be sure that the Nevins Library will have plenty of great programs and events planned this coming year, as well as great titles and items available to borrow.  

Ted Reinstein shares new book

The Nevins Library welcomes “Chronicle” reporter and author Ted Reinstein on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 6:30pm (snow date Thursday, Jan. 30 at 6:30pm). Ted will be talking about his latest book, “Travels Through the Heart & Soul of New England,” in which he discusses the memorable people he has met on his travels and how their struggles, toughness, triumphs and humor not only define the very essence of New England, but represent the timeless best of America as well. Drop-In Tech Help

Need help with your laptop, phone, tablet, e-reader or have another technology-related question? Did someone gift you a new device and you’d like some help learning how to use it? Bring your devices and your questions! We’ll do our best to answer them and, if we can’t, we’ll look for answers and learn alongside you. No registration is required – just drop in Thursday, Jan. 16 between 6 and 7pm. 

Adult crafters’ monthly program

Crafters of all skill levels are welcome to join our new monthly program Creative Outlet: Crafting with Samm and Sue. The first meeting will be Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 7pm. This month’s theme is Scrap Booking/ Journaling. Sign up for this program with the Calendar of Events on our website or by calling (978) 686-4080.

Name-change workshop

Learn how to legally change your name with the Social Security Office. On Thursday, Jan. 23, at 3pm, a representative from the Social Security Office will put on a presentation explaining everything you need to do to change your name. Library hours

The library will be closed Monday, Jan. 20 in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. As always, if you are unsure if the library is open or closed for a holiday or weather, please just give us a call at (978) 686-4080.  

Book sale donations

The Friends of the Nevins Library will start taking donations for the spring book sale starting Monday, Jan. 6. Please bring in any books, DVDs, games and/or jigsaw puzzles that are in good condition and complete. Please, no magazines, VHS tapes or encyclopedias. If you need any help bringing your donations into the library, please check at the Main Desk for help.

Games, crafts & more for teens

Check out any or all of our clubs and groups for teens! Register through the Calendar of Events on our website, or by calling (978) 686-4080 ext. 26. New members are always welcome.

  • Book Babble: On Thursday, Jan. 2 at 7pm, we’ll be discussing the book “Legend” by Marie Lu.
  • Teen Arts & Crafts Club: Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 3pm.
  • Teen Gaming Club: Thursday, Jan. 9 at 7pm.
  • Teen Anime Club: Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 4pm.
  • Teen Movie Club:  Tuesday, January 21 at 4pm

Board & Brewed

Adults in their 20s and 30s: If you love coffee, tea and games, come to Board and Brewed! Board and Brewed meets Saturday, Jan. 11 at 11am. The library will provide coffee and tea; you provide the games. There are no sign-ups for this program, just drop in and play!

From the Children’s Room

First, a huge thank-you to all the wonderful patrons and staff who donated to our annual Giving Tree! You have made Christmas so much merrier for homeless children served by Emmaus Inc., and we are deeply moved by your outpouring of support and amazing generosity.

Now that the holidays are over, the Youth Services Department is starting the new year with a brand-new program: “Story to Screen,” a monthly screening of movies based on popular children’s books! And after our lighter programming last month, we’re resuming favorite programs such as “Sensory Saturday” (ages 18 months-3 years), “Homeschool Hub” (ages 5-10), “Boredom Busters” (ages 6-9), “History Unlocked” (ages 8-12) and “Create, Explore & More!” (ages 9-12).

As ever, we’ll also have our usual variety of other preschool programs, storytimes, teen programs and more – keep an eye on the Youth Services Department calendar and Facebook page to keep track of what’s in store!
