On June 23, over 100 veterans and family members gathered for a Pig Roast and Family Cookout at Forest Lake, hosted by the Veterans Services Department. The weather was perfect, and there were activities for everyone. Booths from the VA Bedford Healthcare, Disabled American Veterans Queen City Chapter, Clear Path for Veterans, the Methuen Senior Activity Center, and the Service Dog Project from Ipswich provided valuable information and services.
Children enjoyed a bouncy house, an inflatable obstacle course (a big hit), face painting, and balloon twisting provided by American Entertainment. The meal was a highlight, featuring a 77-pound pig roasted by the Pig Kahuna from Portland, Maine, along with hot dogs and hamburgers provided by the Methuen Fire Department, and lemonade and iced tea from Raising Cane’s at The Loop.
“An outstanding tribute to our veterans and their families,” said former Methuen Veterans Director Ed “Hoppy” Curran.
Many thanks to the Methuen Rec Department, Methuen Department of Public Works, and American Legion Post 122 for their help in making the event a huge success.
